flood alleviation scheme, London

An innovative flood alleviation scheme that utilises the Grade II Listed local parks to capture surface water runoff following rainfall, offering a temporary storage solution while local sewers and drains clear. The scheme was designed to tackle the risk of flooding in a number of ways, including:

· building earth bunds and walls to temporarily contain or redirect surface water, while masking the engineering solutions through landscape proposals, such as the adventure playground;

· increasing the storage capacity of the existing lakes, whilst enhancing the surrounding area through additional planting and access paths;

· installing below-ground storage, whilst improving surface drainage for the sports facilities;

· planting wetland wildflower meadows to attract wildlife, enhancing local habitats and biodiversity.
